Slide Occlusal Splint

An occlusal splint is a removable, rigid or flexible appliance that fits over the occlusal surfaces of the teeth of an arch, creating precise occlusal contact with the teeth of the opposing arch according to the design and objectives of the splint.

All types of splint have common goals and functions:

· Distribution of occlusal forces.

· Stabilization of teeth that have no antagonist.

· Stabilization of weak teeth.

· Reduced wear.

· Provide rest to affected tissues.

Its use is indicated in:

· Patients with TMJ problems.

· Oral rehabilitation patients.

· Patients in orthodontic treatment.

· Before making occlusal adjustments.

· Temporarily in patients who have received occlusal adjustment.  Patients suffering from bruxism.

We may make an evaluation based on your signs and symptoms and a sleep history, which you can provide with help from someone who shares your bed or your household, if possible.

If you have obstructive sleep apnea, Dr. Medina might refer you to an ear, nose and throat doctor to rule out blockage in your nose or throat. An evaluation by a heart doctor (cardiologist) or a doctor who specializes in the nervous system (neurologist) might be necessary to look for causes of central sleep apnea.
